Séverine Ballon étudie le violoncelle aux Hochschule de Berlin et Lübeck avec Joseph Schwab et Troels Svane. En 2004-2005, elle est académiste au sein de l’Ensemble Modern (Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie). Elle perfectionne sa technique de violoncelle contemporain avec Siegfried Palm, Lukas Fels, Rohan de Saram. En 2006-2007, elle est violoncelle soliste de l’orchestre de chambre de Toulouse, puis décide de se consacrer à la musique contemporaine et à la création. Elle est membre des ensembles Elision (Australie), Cairn et multilaterale (Paris), et travaille régulierement avec les ensembles Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik (Cologne), Ictus, Ensemble Intercontemporain… enn 2008-2009 elle a été en residence au Schloss Solitude. Elle aime particulièrement travailler avec des compositeurs, Helmut Lachenmann, Liza Lim, James Dillon, Jonathan Harvey… elle a crée des pieces solos (Erik Ulman, Stefano Bulfon, Alex Sigman…) Elle a travaillé à l’ircam avec le compositeur David Coll, mais aussi avec la photographe Evi Keller sur un projet d’installation. Elle joue en duo avec electronique avec Sebastien Roux. Elle travaille en musique de chambre en formation de trio à cordes avec Saori Furukawa et Cécile Brossard, mais aussi avec Mark Knoop et Carl Rosman. Séverine Ballon est laureate du concours international d’interpretation de musique contemporaine de Gioia del Colle (Italie) en 2004 et de la fondation Marie-Luise Imbusch.
Séverine Ballon studied cello at the Hochschulen für Musik in Berlin and Lübeck with Joseph Schwab and Troels Svane. In 2004-2005 she was a participant in the International Ensemble Modern Academy. She has also undertaken further studies in contemporary cello technique with Siegfried Palm, Lukas Fels and Rohan de Saram. In 2006-2007, she was a solo cellist in the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, before deciding to specialise in contemporary music performance. Séverine is a member of the ensembles ELISION (Australia), Ensemble Cairn and multilatérale (Paris) and works regularly with such ensembles as Klangforum Wien, musikFabrik (Cologne), Ictus, Ensemble Inytercontemporain… In 2008-2009 she was at Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart) for a six-month residency. She attaches particular importance to working directly with composers (Helmut Lachenmann, Liza Lim, James Dillon, Jonathan Harvey…) and has premiered several solo works (Liza Lim, Erik Ulman, Stefano Bulfon, Alex Sigman…). She has recently collaborated with composer David Coll on his multimedia work 68 at IRCAM, and on an installation project with photographer Evi Keller. She regularly performs in a duo with electronic artist Sébastien Roux. She performs chamber music in a string trio with Saori Furukawa et Cécile Brossard, as well as with Mark Knoop and Carl Rosman. Séverine Ballon has been a prize-winner of the 2004 international contemporary music performance competition Gioia del Colle (Italy) and of the Marie-Luise Imbusch Foundation.
